Promising Future Love

Lorrie and I spent our morning today with a local church who was hosting a marriage seminar. We’re grateful to God for opportunities like this that allow us to continually grow in our roles as husband and wife and be reminded of the truths found in God’s Word.

One of the passages of Scripture that we looked at today is found in Ephesians chapter 5. In verse 25 the Apostle Paul commands husbands to love their wives as Christ loves the church. The word “love” that Paul uses is the present imperative tense, meaning that husbands are to repeatedly love their wives the way that Christ sacrificially loves the church.

The presenter made the comment that when men marry they are promising future love to their wife. I love that. Promising future love really captures the heart of what Paul was going after in this verse to husbands.

My choice to love Lorrie today is also a promise to love her tomorrow and the next and the next day and so on.

Here’s to love!
