Living Simply

One of my most favorite core values of the Brethren In Christ church is Living Simply. I say that because the way that they describe this value doesn’t make living simply the end, but rather the means to something else. Here’s the description:

We value uncluttered lives, which free us to love boldly, give generously, and serve joyfully.

Isn’t that a beautiful declaration? I love how they describe living simply as a pathway to generosity, a pathway to being just like Jesus.

Jesus was a master at loving people with a bold kind of love. There was no one he wasn’t willing to talk with or touch. He crossed culture boundaries to ensure that people knew that they mattered.

Jesus’ generosity began long before he began his ministry more than 2000 years ago. His generosity stems from his willingness to become fully human and fully God to make a way for all people to know God.

Jesus served joyfully as he modeled a life dependent on God while meeting the needs of those all around him. His compassion was endless as he healed the sick and served the world by giving them exactly what they needed…rescue.

Here’s to living simply so that our love, giving, and serving is a reflection of Jesus.
